I've been around for more than a year but have never made a post here before...I thought this might be a good opportunity, since I think all of you will understand how I'm feeling. I've been into pokemon since the RBY days, but only really started collecting things after joining the community last year. A couple of weeks ago, I finished my Ph.D. and moved from New York down to Maryland, where my husband has been living/working for 3 years. I didn't have a huge amount of stuff, but since I was moving by myself (Patrick couldn't get time off to come and help) I had to hire a professional moving company to help me get down here. Well - most of my things arrived in good shape and with little or no damage, but they lost 4 boxes somewhere on the way. Don't even get me started on the level of ineptitude that required on their part (and they keep telling me, "Oh, this never happens! We're so sorry, you just have bad luck" as if that will make me feel better). One of those boxes (a BIG, brand-new, sturdy blue plastic tote) contained ALL of my Pokemon things. They're just...gone :*(
The other 3 boxes contained important stuff too - all of my DVDs, several board games that my husband and I were really looking forward to playing together, all my Wii and PS2 games, most of my DS games, and all my stuffed animals, including ones that had a lot of sentimental value to me. I'm heartbroken at the loss of everything, but at least DVDs and games are replaceable. Those stuffed animals, and all the pokemon things that I had so much fun getting from people on the community here, can't really be replaced in the same way. I guess I'm lucky that I haven't been collecting for very long, and that I didn't have anything that was particularly rare - I was focusing on kids and other small figures, and mostly had the ones for pokemon I'd used in the actual games. I'm still sorry to lose them, and my Latias and Lapras pokedolls. I hated to even put those boxes on the moving truck, but my car was stuffed and I thought they'd be safe in the blue tote since it's sturdier than a cardboard box.
I didn't pay for extra insurance on my items -most of my stuff is old college things that my husband has duplicates of anyway, so we didn't think it would be a big deal if some things got damaged. We were probably a bit nieve to think they wouldn't actually lose anything, but when my husband moved down here there was nothing lost and NO damage at all...I guess that first good experience made us a little blind to what can really happen. The only compensation I'll get is the standard 60 cents per pound...and since pound for pound, those were probably the MOST valuable things out of everything I own, that will get me nowhere on replacing it.
Ok, wow, wall of text...I know I'm just whining - but I figured if anyone will understand how I feel it's you guys! The one bright spot in all of this is that I have such a great resource for building the collection back up again. Once I've started my new job and have a bit of money to spend, I can get started :)
*edited to add, cause I'm scattered and stupid this morning*
I know this isn't just a discussion community - what I'd like to start with *right now*, is to replace my Latias pokedoll and my Pokemon FireRed version (but LeafGreen would be ok too). I'm looking back through other posts and people's sales posts now, but does anyone have either of those things they're ready to sell?
Has anyone else had something like this happen? How did you go about building everything up again?
(Oh, and the icon is from pandamonious - it's just so...appropriate right now)
