I had these guys (with some reluctance), on ebay yesterday.
But there's a reason I pulled them off so quickly.
Said reason? Below the cut, lovelies!
Latias and Latios are very hard to collect.
So hard, in fact, that I've mostly given up on Latias. I'll get Latias items if I can afford them, and if I really, really like them (she's got a ton of merch, since she's a legendary), and of course one of my three grails is the giant Latias plush.
But this isn't about that.
My point being, is I know a lot about the existing plush, or I thought I did.
The Pokemon Centre in Japan and the US released sets of TOMY Latias and Latios plush (Latias being around 11.5" long and Latios being maybe 1-2" longer). The fur had a noticeable 'pile' to it, meaning they were fuzzy, and they also came with matching drawstring bags.
A significant other from the past bought me the Japanese set of these, for around $200. Later they were released in from the US Pokemon Centre - the exact same release - they were around $25 for the set.
Years, and years later... these two come along.
I figure they're the same Japanese release, minus the bags.
They appear to be the same pattern, but other than that? They're quite different.
I don't believe these two came with bags - the seller called the 'limited edition,' but I figured that was just to get some attention.
Are these guys limited? I can't say for sure, but probably.
The material has a noticeable sheen to it, and not as much of a pile - they are smooth, and more beautiful than the other plush.
The other thing?
THEIR ARMS CAN BE POSED!
Also, thanks to gogoicarus, THEIR HEADS ARE SOMEWHAT POSABLE TOO OMFG
Seriously. My husband just figured this out.
I started freaking out afterwards - he made Latios point is arm and have Latias brush her teeth (being that they're, you know, siblings XD), but his arm STAYED IN POSITION.
I started freaking out.
Here's some lame proof, since I can't take video:
They've got a pretty wide range of motion, too! The arms have some kind of metal or plastic mechanism in them that allow them to be posed! I was thoroughly surprised and amazed - thus, these two siblings will be staying in my collection, likely forever.
For reference, this is NOT the same plush:
Notice the different material? I've got a feeling the giant plush are made out the shiny material, too.
I have no idea how rare they are, but in all my time searching, I have never seen another set like them, and I've seen a LOT of Lati* plush around ebay and Y!Japan in the past 6 years. From images, they often look similar to the other set of Lati* plush
Expect some photostories later on, folks.
